New Scandinavian Design-The Hanson Family

The Hansen Family Collection

About the family:
Handmade Furniture – Homegrown Wood – New Scandinavian Design.
The Hansen Family is a label with a strong handcrafted character, founded by designer Gesa Hansen who grew up in a Scandinavian family of carpenters, designers and architects. After graduating at the Bauhaus-University and stopping at a few design studios such as Jean Nouvel and H5 in Paris, and the NDC in Tokyo, she decided to create her own label, combining new design and family savoir-faire in the family atelier. “Homegrown” in the business comes from the natural resources of oaks that we harvest in local forests, in this way allowing each piece to be handcrafted and unique.

The first collection won two times the international Red Dot award and the International Good Design Award of the Chicago Athenaeum.

The Trunk
A simply yet beautiful two box construction which splits open to reveal dresser drawers, cupboard shelving, and a unique rack like hanger which finishes off the trunk beautifully. The trunk is a remix of the traditional oversea trunks from the 19th century.

Elements :  hat tree, flip-up mirror, cubby holes for shoes or papers, two drawers, and two large shelves for additional storage.

The Desk is a remix of a classic Davenport. Fitting better in open living spaces than office room, it can be placed in both modern and traditional interiors, and is therefore suitable for every generation. It exists with an extendable worktop, an upper level and four compartments. The compartments are removable and are at the same level as the worktop, so anything not needed can be easily be stored.

The Sideboard
The drawer-fronts are jutting out to enable an easy pulling out, inspired by the boat building interior of the Scandinavian folk boat, reminding to the clinker-hull of the classic boat.
The cross in the middle is available in one of the four “Remix” colours of the collection.
