Have you had a Color Catastrophe? Need A Color Cure? Four Must Have Tools When Choosing a Color Palette

Remember how easy it was to choose your favorite crayon color  in  Kindergarten? If choosing a paint color were that easy interior designers would be out of their jobs! Its NOT easy.

Here are some tips to help you navigate your color conundrums:
Have you wondered "What color should I paint my _________?" To help you discover colors that may fit into you and your families personalities, take the  color test. This test will help you determine if you should paint your living room  Showy Scarlett or Serene Sand. Better  Homes and Gardens  has an online test that will help you discover your personality's color:
What's Your Color Personality?

When interviewing my clients I found them color savvy and not color shy. So I pulled the yellow out of their piano painting and used it as a wall color. The vibrant shade of yellow creates unexpected drama and visually "holds" the bookcase wall making it even more of a focal point.

Another cool tool is Color Hunter this site helps you create and find color palettes made from images.

Lets say you have a favorite rug or art piece and want to build your room design around the colors in those pieces. Color Capture by Benjamin Moore takes the guesswork out of what colors to use. This is how it works: You take a photo with your phone and Color Capture gives you all the colors in the photo with corresponding paint samples.

I want you to think about color in an out-of-the-ordinary way. I came across Erin's blog, who is in her own words "Obsessed with the color turquoise."  She started the blog: House of TurquoiseJust for fun visit her blog and click through the pages to see what using one dominant color can do for you.

I am often asked "What is your favorite paint ?"
I like Benjamin Moore. It tends to have everything from all the latest paint color trends to the latest color tools. And the most important factor: Long-lasting paint. Visit their site to get all kinds of helpful info before you paint.

Ok you have some idea of the process, but still can't choose?
When you're weary, feeling small
When tears are in your eyes
I will dry them all
I'm on your side when times get rough
And friends just can't be found
Like a bridge over colored water I will lay me down…

Call Kimberlee at 503 407-9525 and walk confidently across the bridge to a colorful life.

Remember paint is power packed and has a lot of bang for your buck.
Paint is the most cost affective decorating tool. Visit lots of before and after photos like the one below on my website and you'll get an idea of how to make paint colors work for you.

The room above was lackluster and boring to say the least.
I used a grape color on one wall to offset the bold mustard sofa. Using a strong (but not too strong) paint color makes the room visually balanced. If just the sofa had color, your eye would stop at the sofa. The grape color picked up in the throw pillows also helps to keep your eye traveling around the room. When choosing paint colors have FUN… you can always repaint.
